Music has always been a big part of my life. I especially love live performances, singing acapella in harmony with others and playing acoustic instruments. There are many studies that show the benefits of music on development and mental well being. Research shows that being an active participant in playing an instrument can improve these benefits and I can definitely agree with that!
I played piano for several years as a child before taking a long break. After deciding to homeschool our children, I bought a piano to teach them how to play. I have been fortunate to have worked with supportive, caring and encouraging music teachers. They have improved my life and given me a confidence that spills over to outside of musical performance. They have inspired me to start my own teaching journey and continue to further my education as a musician. In the past I have had experience as a riding instructor at a therapeutic riding center, volunteering in schools, 4H and scouts, being a nanny and running a home daycare which has allowed me to work with children of all ages. I enjoy teaching because it gives me a chance to share my love of music and encourage other people to find the joy in playing an instrument.
I enjoy being a lifelong learner. In 2023, I completed the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) Elementary Piano Teacher course. I am currently taking piano lessons with a focus on RCM repertoire and working though their theory courses. In addition to playing piano, I sing in a choir and have started taking violin lessons which I find so challenging and fun!
Students are encouraged to be a part of their own learning process to build a deeper love and understanding of music. For beginner students, I use the engaging, locally created in BC WunderKeys method books. For younger students, there are bright, colorful and kid friendly beginner books for children starting from preschool to nine. They also have teen and adult beginner series geared towards getting you playing beautiful music in no time. As students progress, their technical knowledge may be furthered with the RCM Piano and Theory as well as supplemented with popular selections to give them a solid understanding of all aspects of music. I currently have a few spaces left at my home studio for students of all ages and am happy to discuss direct billing to your organization of choice.
In addition to music, I enjoy spending time with my husband, two boys. I love to ride my horses, train dogs garden and paddle board. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, I look forward to meeting you!
